While searching through piles of paperwork, or reading government sites for hours on end as my brain grows increasingly numb I have to wonder why I would choose to take the hobby I enjoy so much and make it into work.
I simply have to remember that setting up is the hardest part. Getting websites and automatic systems ready is part of making this easier for myself and the customers so we can both have a fun easy experience and get the products we want.
What I really enjoy about making things is reading the customers and matching something fantastic to their likes, needs and personality. Producing a stock of products, instead of doing just custom orders, gives me free rein to try out some of the weird and wonderful designs that have been drifting through my head, keeping me awake at night. It also lets me work with other designers to add completely different feels and styles to some of my collections.
The months of admin work will pay off, and I look forward to releasing new products and styles, both online and at my first major stall at Ironfest 2017.
